UNO x PEANUTS 75th ANNIVERSARY EDITION - ART DIRECTION
Created to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Charles M. Schulz’s beloved Peanuts, this special edition UNO deck takes players on a journey through the evolution of Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and the entire Peanuts gang. The concept was to highlight how the illustration style has transformed over the decades — from Schulz’s earliest newspaper comic strips, to the holiday specials that became cultural touchstones, and finally to the polished, modern versions of the characters we know today.
The deck itself functions as both a playable game and a visual time capsule. Each card family reflects a distinct era of Peanuts artwork, giving players a layered storytelling experience as they shuffle through different decades of Schulz’s legacy. The intention was not just to design a card game, but to create a nostalgic keepsake that honors the timeless charm and emotional impact of Peanuts.
We partnered closely with the Peanuts archives team, combing through original comic strips, sketches, and production artwork from Schulz’s career to curate the visuals. This collaboration allowed us to ground the deck in authenticity while reinterpreting the art for UNO’s modern design system.
The packaging design mirrors this journey. With a clean, commemorative look, it honors the brand’s heritage while still feeling playful and celebratory. The 75th anniversary logo is integrated as a subtle nod to the milestone, and the box design acts as a frame for the iconic Peanuts characters — a collectible moment before gameplay even begins.
My Role
I led the creative execution of the collaboration from initial concept to final product:
Developed the concept of using UNO as a storytelling tool to showcase the evolution of Peanuts illustration through the decades.
Partnered with the Peanuts archives team to source and adapt Schulz’s original comic strips, sketches, and historical artwork.
Designed the full card system, mapping specific eras of Peanuts to different card families for a curated, chronological journey.
Art directed the packaging design, ensuring it captured the nostalgic, celebratory tone of the anniversary while still aligning with UNO’s brand identity.
Oversaw visual consistency and storytelling across both cards and packaging, balancing authenticity with playability.
