The Visual Concept

UNO x Peanuts 75th Anniversary visual concept — from original comic art to collectible game design.

Overview & Direction

To honor the legendary legacy of the Peanuts gang, we created the UNO x Peanuts 75th Anniversary Edition, a premium collectible deck built around storytelling through design. As Art Director, I led the creative strategy and visual systems that transformed this celebration into an elevated product experience.

Working closely with the Peanuts archives team, I pitched mood boards, sourced historical sketches, and curated eras of Charles M. Schulz’s illustrations into different card families. From there, I guided my design team through packaging layouts, icon sets, and product visuals to strike the balance between authenticity and playability.

The design language layered nostalgia with modern clarity: clean packaging framing Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and friends; a subtle 75th anniversary logo; and color systems that reflect the evolution of the artwork. Every edition tells a visual story before the first card is even flipped.

Researched Peanuts archives to build an authentic, era-spanning design system.

Archival reference that inspired the UNO deck’s color story and printed texture.

Execution

In partnership with licensing and manufacturing teams, we mapped each game element to a specific illustration era, developed layering systems for card faces, and finalized packaging dielines that celebrated the anniversary while meeting UNO’s production standards. My role included:

  • Partnering with the archives to source authentic artwork and reference material

  • Guiding designers through concept revisions, ensuring cohesiveness with license requirements

  • Overseeing final production visuals and alignment across marketing, retail, and display assets

Outcome

The special edition released in celebration of the 75th anniversary and reaffirmed UNO Premium’s position in the collectible game market.

Impact Highlights:

  • First edition to feature a chronological storytelling system via card families

  • Received positive feedback from collectors and license holders for authenticity and design clarity

  • Established a new blueprint for future franchise-edition collaborations

“Designing this edition reminded me that legacy is built quietly over time and loudly in the moment of reveal.

My job was to translate history into play, to make you feel the past and shuffle it into the future.”
